Function of the Position:

The Global Practice Specialist (GPS) will support the Global Practice Leader, Education to establish DAI’s Education Practice. The GPS will serve as an in-house technical specialist across the organization, and will augment his/her capabilities through a professional network of external technical experts and strategic partners to provide technical support to DAI globally. Under the leadership of the Global Practice Leader, Education, this position is responsible for growing DAI’s market share for development services within the area of practice, writing proposals in the USG and other DAI business units, and providing technical support to projects. In addition to technical assistance on proposals and projects the position will require building a network that connects DAI projects, staff, and clients, in part through a Community hosted on DAI’s internal portal, DAIConnect. The GPS will collaborate with the other Technical Services teams to create a competitive advantage in delivering technical services to DAI’s donor, government, and corporate clients.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

The following percentage time allocations are notional, and will be tailored based upon individual capacity in key areas and evolving company need. 

 

1. Business Development and Growth (50%)

The GPS will be responsible for contributing to the growth of DAI’s education portfolio.  Identifies technical capabilities and trends which guide annual new business plans and technical requirements for proposal support; participates in setting bidding priorities; collaborates with DAI’s new business team to draft Global Practice new business strategies. 

Substantively contributes to Global Practice’s new business activities by writing proposals and developing proposal-specific business acquisition plans.

Contributes to development of a multi-year, multi-client plan to expand DAI’s work in the Global Practice’s technical areas, focusing on products and services that address the needs of clients in local, national, regional, and international locations.  Maintains a focus on the forward market, anticipating emerging trends and opportunities for DAI to differentiate itself in the Education sector.

 

2. Technical Leadership (30%)

Contributes to increasing DAI’s visibility as a technical leader in Education and for developing integrated technical solutions that leverage technical skills and capabilities in other Global Practices in DAI’s US Government (USG) and DAI/Europe business units. Promotes and supports technical staff to widely disseminate DAI’s development solutions through multiple venues, including social media, professional conferences, video, and public speaking engagements.

Identifies the “assets” required to establish DAI’s Global Practices, including DAI staff, associated experts, and strategic partners.  Drives the active engagement of COPs and local staff in defining, developing, and marketing our technical solutions from a field-level perspective.  Works directly with DAI’s global offices to build technical excellence that resides in across the corporation.

Is the technical contributor for Education projects. Provides technical inputs and encourages a work culture of excellence, integrity, and accountability.

 

3. Knowledge Management (20%)

In concert with the Sector VP and the GPL, the GPS will be responsible for enhancing DAI’s brand to our main clients, USAID and DFID. The GPS will produce content for the DAI website, internal and external publications, and internal business development resources from DAI’s work in the technical area to enhance proposal quality.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12: 13 years of professional development experience and a Bachelor’s degree, 11 years of professional development experience and a Master’s degree; or 9 years of professional development experience and a PhD.
  • Grade 11: 11 years of professional development experience and a Bachelor’s degree; 9 years of professional development of experience and a Master’s degree; or 7 years of professional development experience and a PhD. 
  • Grade 10:  9 years of professional development experience and a Bachelor’s degree; 7 years of professional development of experience and a Master’s degree; or 5 years of professional development experience and a PhD.
  • Has demonstrated, related new business success with a range of clients, including USAID and other USG, international or private sector clients
  • Has demonstrated experience with the broad range of USAID basic education tools and approaches.  Specific experience related to education in emergencies preferred.
  • Has demonstrated experience with developing successful proposals for USAID education programs.
  • Has the ability to work effectively across technical areas, to develop technical approaches that integrate or leverage resources in different parts of the company
