Smythe LLP is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented Senior Accountant with solid US tax experience to join our growing practice in our downtown Vancouver office.

The Opportunity

As part of our US Tax Group, you will work directly with clients, managers and partners to deliver tax and advisory services as a general practitioner. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of cross-border Canadian and U.S. personal tax experience in public practice.


  • Preparation and review (where applicable) of Canadian and U.S. personal and trust tax returns
  • Prepare tax estimates and projections to help quantify tax exposure for our clients
  • Correspond with Internal Revenue Service (IRS), State taxation authorities and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on behalf of our clients
  • Respond to tax notices issued by IRS, State taxation authorities and the CRA
  • Prepare draft technical and planning memos for files and clients
  • Daily coordination and some management of client accounts
  • Assist managers and partners in all aspects of tax initiatives, including developing and implementing tax planning strategies for clients
  • Provide exceptional service to our clients
  • Networking with other lines of service (at an appropriate staff level) within the firm to leverage client opportunities


  • Minimum of two years of  cross-border Canadian and US tax experience
  • Proven abilities in the areas of Canadian and US personal tax compliance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in teams and individually
  • A desire to learn and adapt in a challenging environment
