Description

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in General Arts, Communications, Marketing, Journalism or Public Relations

  • Membership in IABC or HCPR preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive communications experience, at least 2 years at a management level, preferably in the healthcare sector

  • Proven ability to effectively work with people, develop an effective staff team and to establish relationships with senior level staff and volunteers, including board members

  • Strong project management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities, meet deadlines, and multi-task in a fast-paced, professional environment

  • Superior written and oral communication, research, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Excellent computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, Internet/E-mail applications and Adobe InDesign

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and build strategic community linkages at both a grassroots and professional organization level

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance record

  • An employee’s disciplinary record will be reviewed as part of the assessment of qualifications

  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the centre’s core values and help patients get their life back

  • Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors

     

     

    Accountabilities:

  • Identify communications opportunities to enhance the Centre’s position within its geographic community and with its key stakeholders to support the Centre’s strategic plan.

  • Manage and implement an approved annual communications plan for West Park Healthcare Centre in partnership with the West Park Foundation.

  • Implement appropriate communications and media policies.

  • Manage and motivate a dedicated team of communications specialists to implement the communications plan.

  • In collaboration with the Foundation develop, implement, manage and maintain the corporate brand.

  • Manage issues requiring a communications response, including briefing the Vice-President of Strategy, Innovation and CIO and other senior staff as appropriate, and preparing appropriate media responses.

  • Provide support on internal events such as the Annual General Meeting.

  • Provide appropriate communications and public relations support to the Centre, to corporate service delivery organizations to which the Centre provides management services, and to the Foundation staff.

  • Oversee use of social media to support the Centre’s communication plan.

  • Identify and enhance relationships and alliances with community, professional, ethno-cultural and other organizations and groups.

  • Negotiate with suppliers, consultants and vendors providing outside services as applicable.

  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of communication initiatives as required.
