Position Summary:

Serve as a scientist for assigned clinical and nonclinical research studies of basic to moderate complexity involving humans and animal models, to include protocol design, budget involvement, study management, interpretation and reporting of study data including scientific journal publications.           

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With minimal guidance, serve as a study director (SD), project scientist (PS) and/or principal investigator (PI) in the direction and execution of assigned studies in compliance with GLP regulations as they apply.
  • Participate in and assist in coordinating all phases of the study planning process with appropriate departments.
  • Provide technical and scientific guidance to the research staff.
  • Generate high-quality project plans, protocols, amendments, quantitative analyses and reports appropriate for assigned studies.
  • Review, interpret, integrate, and present data on assigned studies.
  • Review, interpret, integrate, and critique data on other departmental studies.
  • Prepare and edit manuscripts, abstract and posters involving topics of cardiology and defibrillation coordinated with outside investigators.
  • Establish relationships with investigators and opinion leaders.
  • Travel is required, national and international, but is expected to be less than 20% of work time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.                                 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Educations and/or Experience:

  • Advanced degree (PhD or MD) in a scientific discipline is required, an engineering degree is preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in research is required, preferably within the biomedical device industry.
  • Background in signal processing is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in research writing, data mining, literature searches, and quantitative/qualitative analysis is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of statistics and ability to use statistical software packages is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Expertise in R is a plus.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
