CONCRETE PROFESSIONAL

Position requires individuals to work on construction projects requiring the pouring of concrete.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Laborer

  1. Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  2. Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones
  3. Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
  4. Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures
  5. Build and position forms for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts
  6. Tend to water pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment
  7. Shovel, pour, and spread concrete
  8. Grind or scrape concrete using abrasive tools or machines
  9. Apply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking guns on ties and cuts in walls
  10. Anchor or brace wooden structures, frameworks, or forms
  11. Apply cleaning solvents
  12. Climb ladders and scaffolding
  13. Dig holes or trenches for foundations, posts, poles, or related items
  14. Install insulating materials
  15. Load, unload, or stack containers, materials, or products
  16. Mix mortar, grout, slurry, concrete, or related masonry material
  17. Move materials or goods between work areas by hand
  18. Prepare building surfaces for sealants, foam or adhesives
  19. Prepare site or surfaces for concrete work
  20. Inspect forms for problems or defects
  21. Responsible for maintaining job site safety and DOT compliance

Skilled (these are tasks required in addition to those listed in the laborer level)

  1. Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
  2. Smooth and finish freshly poured concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools
  3. Spray materials such as form oil and sealer
  4. Move materials or goods between work areas using Manitou or skidsteer
  5. Repair cracks, defects, or damage in installed building materials
  6.  Grind or cut concrete
  7.  Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
  8. Install rebar per rebar plans
  9. Properly use hand finishing tools
  10. Ability to navigate through plans
  11. Understand and apply patch and overlay materials on broom, hand, and decorative finishes
  12. Successful removal of concrete in various situations (jack hammer, chipping hammer, breakers, etc.)
  13. Perform wall injections as required
  14. Grout anchor bolts
  15. Operate multiple types of concrete saws, grinders, and vacuums
  16. Understand and utilize multiple sealers on varying concrete projects
  17. Able to trouble shoot and correct any problems that occur during screed operations
  18. Able to load, unload, maintain, clean, operate, and transfer screed safely
  19. Able to set up and run efficiently for flat, single, dual and 3D floor operation
  20. Set up and run Laser Graders (flat and 3D)

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

REQUIRED ABILITIES

  1. Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
  2. Follow directions, take orders
  3. Not afraid of heights, including over 4’
  4. Read a tape measure
  5. Read a level

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF THE WORKPLACE

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work in high, precarious places; and outdoor weather conditions which can include extreme heat or cold and/or precipitation. The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 150 pounds
  2. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  3. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  4. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear
  5. The employee is occasionally required to sit

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  1. The ability to travel throughout the State of WI and the US is required
  2. As directed by manager
