The Executive Director, Internal Communications (ED) is the executive responsible for all aspects of City of Hope’s internal transformational communications, including driving the overall internal communication strategy and leading a team of internal communications professionals to execute approaches, programs, campaigns, and channels that significantly influence the way the organization communicates, supports transformation, engages employees, and shapes the culture, to ultimately enhance and continuously improve the employee experience. The ED is responsible, through reporting relationships, for ensuring consistent messaging within the organization that align overall operations with City of Hope’s culture, mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
- Establishes strategic direction and oversees the implementation of comprehensive integrated communications plans that are consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategy across the enterprise.
- Leads the development and implementation of strategically-based communications programs that support the City of Hope strategic priorities. Develops and oversees execution of programs, campaigns, and events related to communications function at all levels of the organization.
- Develops and implements innovative approaches to drive an internal culture of clarity and awareness, transparency, sponsorship and engagement in support of the enterprise’s vision. Participates in and coordinates internal messaging for promoting the COH brand of care. Fosters an environment of innovation and integration between the research mission, clinical programs, and practice sites.
- Responsible for all transformation communication channels and governance within the multiple organizational functions and monitors key metrics to evaluate effectiveness of communication plans.
- Partners closely with enterprise leadership to develop and execute internal communication strategic initiatives to drive City of Hope’s strategic priorities and initiatives. Works with multiple executives as counsel to ensure communications are aligned, coordinated, and in support of the culture and direction of the enterprise mission, vision, and culture.
- Works cohesively and collaborates with lead communicators in other organizational units, including VP of External Communications and Affairs and departments, or functional areas to ensure smooth and seamless coordination of communication processes and protocols.
- Uses knowledge of cultural transformation to identify communication gaps, silos, and opportunities to implement effective interventions to improve employees’ perceptions and experiences.
- Leads and directly oversees the internal communications team. Hires, develops, trains, and evaluates all staff engaged in internal communications function.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing or a closely related field. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications preferred.
- Eight (8) years of Internal Communications experience at advanced, director, or executive level, preferably in a healthcare enterprise environment.
