Glidewell is hiring for an Associate R&D Polymer Chemist to join our polymer group for our Research & Development department.  The Associate R&D Polymer Chemist will performing hands-on testing and evaluation of organic and polymeric materials working at polymer lab to assist in the new product development for commercialization.

Job Duties:

  • Execute polymer-based restorative products including support current product portfolio
  • Demonstrates and maintains a strong hands-on experience and knowledge of materials processing especially all aspect of biomaterials or polymer processing, material testing and characterization
  • Takes routine data retrieval and analysis and develop a standard methodology. 
  • Coach the organization to seek process variability reduction and drive to root causes of variation.
  • Facilitate problem solving teams and delegate tasks to others in the pursuit of a solution.
  • Handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers.
  • Responsible for a thorough understanding of and can practice Process Control and Discipline. 
  • Ability to distinguish when to follow SOP, and when SOP no longer applies and additional stakeholder input may be necessary.
  • Be an excellent team member or a team leader within functional area. 
  • Support teams with data- based analysis and conclusions.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and graphing functions.
  • Practical experience with basic statistics, design of experiments, familiarity with advanced statistical methods, and a track record of identifying sources of variation.
  • Demonstrated leadership or strong teamwork in accomplishing common goals.
  • Research and develop projects and products related to dental organic and polymeric materials.
  • Supervise all projects from development to launch in compliance with a regulated design control.
  • Write protocols for development and validation.

Job Requirements:

  • BS in chemistry, biomedical engineering, organic synthesis, polymer synthesis, photopolymerization, materials science and related engineering.
  • BS with 3 - 9 years of hands on professional work experience.
  • Hands on experience in chemistry, biomedical engineering, organic synthesis, polymer synthesis, testing and characterization strongly desirable.
  • Some prior experience in product scale up & production / manufacturing a plus (preferably in dental restorative or medical devices).
  • Knowledge in scale-up of prototype and transfer to operations a plus.
  • Past work experience working in an R&D setting strongly desirable.
  • Prior dental material experience is a plus.
  • Strong emphasis on developing new products through material technology.
  • Strong team player.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and graphing functions.
  • Practical experience with basic statistics.
