News That Moves (newsthatmoves.org) is a Humanitarian Information Service, designed to provide “news you can use” for refugees in Europe. It aims at providing a comprehensive and coordinated information-based response to the crisis. The project aims to increase the quantity, reach & impact of life-saving humanitarian information to through online mobile media channels.

The Refugee Liaison Officer engages with refugee communities to understand their needs and the issues they want to raise, supporting their ability to raise questions and engage in dialogue, both among themselves and with the agencies and others charged with providing them support.


Note: hiring will be dependent upon receipt of project funding.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned:

  • Responsible for engaging with refugees in the field and online to understand and collect their needs, questions and comments.
  • Disseminate updates through volunteers and staff of humanitarian organisations via all relevant communication channels.
  • Assist in conducting surveys and focus group discussions.
  • Help create multi-media information materials for refugees.
  • Report to the Operations Team Leader on all activities, including scheduling, locations, and travel to sites in mainland Greece and on islands.
  • Attend weekly RLO meetings for planning, debriefing and discussion on strategy and other issues.
  • Submit to Accountant timesheets, invoices, and other administrative requests, such as reimbursements for expenditures, including metro passes, taxis and phone credit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Team Leader or Project Director.



  • Excellent (mother-tongue) spoken and written Arabic.
  • High English spoken and written skills.
  • High awareness of the refugee situation in Europe generally and Greece specifically a strong asset.
  • Strong communication / interpersonal skills working for a diverse audience in a challenging and sensitive environment.
  • Flexibility and creativity.
  • Experience and familiarity with digital media technologies an advantage.
