As part of the 4-year Strengthening Investigative Reporting in Ukraine project, Internews wishes to hire a consultant with expertise in helping civil society and media programs to find longterm support for their activities after the period of initial donor funding ends. The SIRU project, which supports the weekly investigative TV program Slidstvo.info, will cease activities on December 31, 2017. With the help of the consultant, the Slidstvo journalists will explore other sources of income and sponsorship, with a view to continuing production of this highly valued program. The sustainability consultant will:



  • Analyse the program’s current relationship with other donors in Ukraine. Arrange meetings with current and other donors to discuss avenues of funding starting in 2018.
  • Explore the concept of Slidstvo forming a partnership with Ukraine’s new Public Service Broadcaster.
  • Help Slidstvo to maximize its online presence and monetize its Youtube popularity and potential for banner ads and other online advertising revenue streams.
  • Explore other partnerships and sponsorship models, without compromising Slidstvo’s independence and impartiality.
  • Set a list of activities and goals, with timelines to prepare Slidstvo to be self-funding by January 2018.



  • Experience in creative approaches to fund raising.
  • Experience working with civil society organizations on developing business plans.
  • Knowledge of the region’s journalism environment, specific knowledge of Ukrainian media realities.
  • Grounding in the journalistic principles of independence from influence by any source of funding support.
  • Ability to link the journalists to international donors and represent their project at donor meetings.
  • Knowledge of media relations, outreach, web design, branding, social media and messaging.
  • Knowledge of Russian or Ukrainian an advantage.
  • Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.


Date for consultancy: Early to mid-October 2017 (2 weeks) including travel time to and from Kyiv, Ukraine.
