Location Washington DC, USA

Internews is seeking a part time Program Assistant to provide event coordination and logistical support for global programs that promote digital safety for human rights defenders and vulnerable populations under the supervision of the Program Officer.

This is a unique entry-level role that will offer you the opportunity to develop expertise in the direct implementation of publicly-funded foreign assistance programs for human rights defenders and build your understanding of how human rights and technology intersect.  You are likely to also develop an uncanny ability to navigate time zones, understand the Fly America act, and learn incredibly useful travel hacks, as well as build an understanding of secure communication protocols to improve the safety of working with human rights defenders.

We expect this to be a roughly 20 hr/wk role, with (mostly) predictable variation based on project timelines. This role is ideal for someone with a somewhat flexible schedule, as some events will require coordination across multiple time zones. The Program Assistant will need to work closely with multiple program leads to track and anticipate event needs so as to best manage their time.

You’re an ideal candidate for this position if you have extraordinary attention to detail and organizational capacity; great written and oral communication skills; a love for keeping things moving and on track; a voracious desire to learn; and the desire to help protect human rights defenders, journalists, and marginalized people around the world.  We dress casually, laugh easily, and cheer each other on, so you also need to be ready for that.

This position can be remote or based in Washington, DC and reports to the Program Officer and Director of the portfolio.
