PRIMARY FUNCTION: To interface with the public admitting animals and aiding in the adoption process by performing the following duties.

  • Perform adoption procedures including conducting consultations, answering inquiries, showing animals, and providing customer service

  • Perform animal admissions procedures, including setting up incoming animals

  • Exercise patience and tact when working with difficult, emotional, or angry people

  • Record information pertaining to adoptions and admissions

  • Ensure accuracy of recorded information and process paperwork

  • Perform admission phone-line call backs.  Counsel individuals considering surrendering or rehoming a pet.  Schedule appointments for admitting animals

  • Provide overall animal maintenance—supply animals with food and water, clean cages, kennels and litter boxes

  • Maintain sanitary conditions for animals and work areas

  • Restrain animals for euthanasia

  • Perform other duties as requested

  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable state and federal laws

  • Observe all safety rules and regulations for self and others


    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. (1)

                EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent education. Understanding of proper environments for various domestic animals and Customer service experience and good communication skills are preferred

                LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos and ability to present information one-on-one and in small group situations effectively

    TECHNICAL SKILLS/TOOLS: Computer skills, ability to learn internal software, and cleaning supplies

    OFFICE EQUIPMENT: Copier, fax machine, cash register, safe and other general office equipment

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.(1)

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, speak, hear and see.  Occasionally required to sit, lift up to 50 pounds, carry 25+ pounds, and push and pull 50-100 pounds.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Employee is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts, electrical wiring, chemicals, and is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat/cold/humid conditions, slick floor conditions, and vibrations. Some cleaning and storing is in elevated, potentially precarious locations. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
