Lollypop Farm is a growing humane society where our veterinary staff cares for 10,000 animals annually.  While the Vet Tech team is currently fully staffed and we are not currently hiring for the position, we are inviting candidates to submit a résumé and or application for a Vet Tech position to keep in our Talent List for future openings. 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  To assist veterinarians in providing surgical and medical care to shelter animals as allowed by licensure.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist animals through the adoption process by providing support to our veterinarians during initial health exams, surgical preparation, surgery, dental prophylaxis, anesthetic monitoring and post-operative recovery
  • Perform digital radiography and understand animal positioning techniques
  • Perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and cystocentesis
  • Perform laboratory work including fecal analysis, urinalysis, cytology, titer testing and prepare samples for shipment to other reference laboratories
  • Administer medications to hospitalized and shelter patients
  • Assist with cruelty examinations and forensic necropsies
  • May work with large and exotic animals
  • Perform euthanasia
  • Maintain appropriate medical records and comply with all inventory processes
  • Provide excellent customer service in accordance with Lollypop Farm values

  • Required to work with clients in person and on the telephone.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations for Lollypop Farm in accordance with OSHA
  • Maintain good housekeeping
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable state and Federal laws
  • Perform other duties as requested

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or equivalent plus a veterinary technician degree from an accredited school and a valid NYS veterinary technician license.  New graduates will be required to obtain a temporary license and successfully pass the VTNE. 

 LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating               and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees throughout the organization.

 CONTACTS:  Frequent contact with other clinic staff, shelter staff and Shelter Manager. Occasional contact with Law Enforcement, the Director of Information Technology and the Public Relations Department. 

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, scientific or written form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 TECHNICAL SKILLS/TOOLS:  Possess expertise with clinical equipment, including, but not limited to, anesthetic machines and oxygen delivery unit, EKG, pulse oximetry, capnography, microscopy, digital radiography, doppler, and ultrasound. Intermediate computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, handle, feel, speak, hear, see and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to push and pull 120+ pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Significant amount of standing and walking during a typical day; exposure to fumes, anesthetic gases, animal smells or airborne particles.  The noise level is moderate to high.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, handle, feel, speak, hear, see and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to push and pull 120 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
